Mushroom House Crochet Rug

I used Red Heart to make this and a Boye size G (4.25 mm) hook it.

This rug turned out 24" tall and the top is about 20" wide while the bottom is about 16 or 18" wide.

The piecese are crocheted continuously, and then joined in your preferred fashion.

Crocheting a Mushroom House Rug is a fun and simple project! Here's a beginner-friendly pattern for creating a Mushroom House Rug.

Mushroom Cap: worked as a half circle rug in burgundy

Round 1:
Start with a slip knot on your hook.
Ch 4 and join with a sl st to form a ring (you can also use a magic ring if preferred).
6 SC into ring (6) turn

Round 2:
2 SC in each stitch around (12) turn

Round 3:
(1 SC in first stitch, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (18) turn

Round 4:
(1 SC in first 2 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (24) turn

Round 5:
(1 SC in first 3 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (30) turn

Round 6:
(1 SC in first 4 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (36) turn

Round 7:
(1 SC in first 5 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (42) turn

Round 8:
(1 SC in first 6 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (48) turn

Round 9:
(1 SC in first 7 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (54) turn

Round 10:
(1 SC in first 8 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (60) turn

Round 11:
(1 SC in first 9 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (66) turn

Round 12:
(1 SC in first 10 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (72) turn

Round 13:
(1 SC in first 11 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (78) turn

Round 14:
(1 SC in first 12 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (84) turn Measure here if rug is 20" wide, stop, if more rows are needed, continue)

Round 15:
(1 SC in first 13 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (90) turn

Round 16:
(1 SC in first 14 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch) repeat around (96) turn Finish:
When your mushroom top measures 20" across, finish with 1 round of SC or crab stitch. Fasten off, weave in ends..


Mushroom Stem: worked in white or cafe latte

Start with a slip knot on your hook.
Ch 28 (approximately 18 inches wide)

Round 1:
SC in 2nd ch from hook and across (27 SC) Rounds 2-5:
SC across (27 SC) Round 6
SC2TOG at start and end (25 SC)

Round 7-10:
SC across (25 SC)

Round 11:
SC2TOG at start and end (23 SC)

Rounds 12-15:
SC across (23) turn

Round 16:
SC2TOG at start and end (21 SC)

Rounds 17-20:
SC across (21 SC)

Round 21:
SC2TOG at start and end (19 SC)

Round 22-25:
SC across (19 SC)

Finish:
When your mushroom stem measures 8-10" tall, fasten off and weave in ends.
Spots: worked in white

Small Spot:
Start with a slip knot on your hook.
Ch 4 and join with a sl st to form a ring (you can also use a magic ring if preferred).
6 SC into ring (6), 2 SC in each stitch around (12) (Fasten off)

Medium Spot:
Ch 4 and join with a sl st to form a ring (you can also use a magic ring if preferred).
6 SC into ring (6), 2 SC in each stitch around (12), (1 SC, 2 SC in next stitch around, (18) (Fasten off)

Large Spot:
Ch 4 and join with a sl st to form a ring (you can also use a magic ring if preferred).
6 SC into ring (6), 2 SC in each stitch around (12), (1 SC, 2 SC in next stitch around, (18), (2 SC, 2 SC in next stitch) around (24) (Fasten off)

Make a variety of spots to sew on randomly to the top of your mushroom rug.

Door

Start with a slip knot on your hook.
Ch 10 (about 5 inches wide.
Round 1:
SC in 2nd ch fro hook and across (9 SC)

Rounds 2-6:
SC across (9 SC)

Round 7:
SC2TOG at each end (7 SC)

Round 8:
SC across (7 SC)

Round 9:
SC2TOG at each end (5 SC)

Round 10:
SC across (5 SC)

Round 11:
SC2TOG at each end (3 SC)

Round 12:
SC across (3 SC) Round 13:
SC3TOG (top of door arch) (1 SC) (Fasten off)
Optional: Add surface stitch outlines for planks

Windows (Make 2)

Chain 6.
Round 1:
SC in 2nd chain from hook and across (5 SC)

Round 2:
Chain 1, turn, SC across (5 SC)

Round 3:
Chain 1, turn, SC across (5 SC)

Round 4:
Chain 1, turn, SC across (5 SC)

Round 5:
Chain 1, turn, SC across (5 SC)

Round 6:
Chain 1, turn, SC across (5 SC)

Round 7:
Chain 1, turn, SC across (5 SC)

Round 8:
Chain 1, turn, SC across (5 SC)

Fasten off and weave in ends

Optional: Surface stitch a crosspane.

Assembly

Sew cap to stem using long tail
Sew spots to cap
Sew door to stem
Sew windows near top of stem
Weave in all ends.
Optional: Attach non-slip backing
